THE FRIDAY FIVE
Weekend of July 31 - August 2 · Posted every Thursday morning
Last updated July 30. New Five drops every Thursday morning.
01
St. Roccos + Downtown Sounds
CHURCH OF ST. ROCCO + VILLAGE SQUARE · GLEN COVE · FRI 7/31, 7PM · FREE
Two things going on in the same town on the same night, both free. The Feast of St. Rocco runs Thursday through Sunday, and Downtown Sounds is doing Pop Divas Through the Decades with the Chiclettes over at Village Square. Thirty years they've been running that series and it pulls two thousand people. Eat at the feast, walk over for the band. There's a second stage near the Staples lot at 7 if you want both.
02
HELLA DOUBT
PLATTDUETSCHE PARK BIERGARTEN · FRANKLIN SQUARE
SAT 7/31, 6:30PM TO 10:30PM · $8 COVER
A No Doubt tribute with a Green Day tribute opening, in a German beer garden. We're not going to explain that. Kitchen runs until 2am and the pretzels are imported from Munich. The one thing worth knowing: the Biergarten is behind the restaurant, so don't park out front and stand there wondering where the music is coming from.
03
DISCO SUMMER DANCE PARTY
TOWN PARK · POINT LOOKOUT
SAT 8/1, GATES 4PM, MUSIC 6PM · FREE
Sister Sledge, C+C Music Factory, Tavares, France Joli, Lime and Alisha. Six real acts, not tributes, and nobody's charging you. There's a drone show over the water when the music ends. Food trucks, beer garden, kids zone. This is the best free thing on the island this weekend and it isn't particularly close.
★ CREW PICK
04
FESTA DEL GIGLIO
MASSAPEQUA LIRR STATION LOT · MASSAPEQUA
SUN 8/2 · FREE
A hundred men lift a seventy-foot tower with a live brass band riding on top of it, and dance it down the street. They've been building to this since Thursday. It's in the train station parking lot, so you can literally take the train. If you've lived here your whole life and never seen this, fix that. We'll be there.
05
JET CITY
THE BOAT YARD · TOBAY BEACH, MASSAPEQUA
SUN 8/2, 5:30PM · FREE
Live band on the water starting early enough that you get the sunset and then the dark. Here's the part nobody tells you: you don't need an Oyster Bay pass. Tell the toll booth you're headed to the Boat Yard and they hand you a free parking pass. Most people on this island have no idea.
THE BONUS ROUND
HALF STEP + LI CARES FOOD DRIVE · EAST MEADOW
BINGOPALOOZA · LEVITTOWN
BACK TO THE 90s BINGO · MASSAPEQUA PARK
HAMPTON BAYS FIRE DEPT CARNIVAL · HAMPTON BAYS
GARVIES POINT MUSEUM DAY · GLEN COVE
GET THE FRIDAY FIVE IN YOUR INBOX
Every Thursday morning. Before you make weekend plans.
One email a week. That's it. Unsubscribe whenever.
WE SAID GO. SO WE WENT.
Summer Luau in Levittown. Next Five drops Thursday.
WHAT IS THIS?
It started with beers on a porch on Old Farm Road. There's a restored tractor on the front lawn. Somebody called it Fridays on the Farm and the name stuck.
Then it spread. Food Truck Friday nights. Fire pits. A projector on the lawn for Knicks games. Bagels + mimosas on the porch on a Sunday morning. Whatever the crew was doing, it was "Fridays on the Farm."
Now we do the same thing for the rest of Long Island. We find the good stuff, we tell you about it, and then we actually show up. Every other events page just lists things. We go.
It's not a farm.
It's a Friday.
